Feldenkrais
The Feldenkrais Method® is based upon principles of physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. Feldenkrais teaches how to increase range and ease of motion, flexibility and coordination, as well as decrease discomfort and stress. It removes habitual patterns and replaces dysfunction with the freedom of movement most associated with childhood.
Feldenkrais Benefits
Our Feldenkrais® clients learn how to move with efficiency and regain that youthful feeling of moving with natural ease. Posture, balance and mobility are improved, and movement is experienced with less pain and more comfort. Feldenkrais is a creative self exploration approach also leading to deep relaxation, focused mental clarity and stress relief. It directly stimulates the nervous system to promote healing and restores function to the body and mind. Feldenkrais is ideal for the aging population facing mobility challenges, people suffering from chronic pain, and for those with neurological disorders such as stroke, Parkinson’s and fibromyalgia.
Functional Integration
Functional Integration® (FI) is a hands-on approach of manual care and communication that relaxes the nervous system and provides relief from pain and anxiety, as well as loosen restricted joints.
Our Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner CM Samantha Arbelo is known for her gentle touch. During Functional Integration® sessions, clients are fully clothed and laying or sitting on a Feldenkrais table. Samantha’s manual intervention through soft touch communicates to the nervous system as she mobilizes individual bones and joints. Sessions with Samantha are soothing and relaxing for busy minds, aching joints and chronic conditions.
Awareness Through Movement
Awareness through Movement® (ATM) classes are verbal lessons that guide slow, mindful movement to give the brain an opportunity to improve body motion and sense of well-being. ATM lessons are insightful and playful often delighting all of the senses.
Samantha Arbelo LMT, GCFP teaches ATM sessions with a calm and patient tone. Her students explore new movement ideas with guided instruction and learn how to move in a way that integrates the whole body into well organized actions. Gentle, slow and complex motions are mastered to become an intelligent and powerful mover. Breath is coordinated with motility and clients relearn fundamentals from childhood. Awareness through Movement lessons are suitable for all body types and benefit all daily activities.
“What I’m after isn’t flexible bodies but flexible brains. What I’m after is to restore each person to their human dignity.”
